Wicked Kitchen launches into Asda as Tesco exclusivity ends: Wicked Kitchen launched more than 150 products into Tesco over the past five years, making it “the largest variety of chef-crafted, animal-free products in the industry”. CEO Pete Speranza described the expansion into Asda as a “major milestone” in its development.
It’s great to see vegan brands expanding. Wicked Kitchen have a great range of vegan products. Hopefully Asda is just the first of many additional stockists.

Oatly campaigns for mandatory climate labelling on food and drinks in the UK: Oatly has launched a campaign in the UK urging the food and drink industry to carbon label their products, in a bid to enhance sector emissions transparency and enable consumers to make informed decisions.
Oatly aren’t exactly my favourite brand but I do like the idea of climate labelling on all food items.
UK Vegans Can Buy An Entire Plant-Based Turkey This Christmas: UK supermarket chain ASDA released its official vegan brand OMV! in January this year. Ahead of Christmas 2023, the supermarket is adding 57 new products to the range, including an entire plant-based turkey.
A bit much? There’s already plenty great vegan ‘roast’ options so I don’t think an entire plant-based ‘turkey’ will be going on my Christmas list.
Can Cats Eat a Vegan Diet? A New Study Challenges a Long-held Assumption: Vets have long maintained that feeding cats a meat-free diet is a big no-no. But a new study published in the open-access journal PLOS ONE challenges this assumption. Overall, the study found no evidence of detrimental health effects in cats fed a vegan diet. In fact, the authors suggest a vegan diet actually leads to health benefits for cats.
What’s new pussycat? Broccoli.
Lidl to price plant-based foods the same as animal-based versions: Lidl in Germany announced the pricing move to promote “conscious, sustainable lifestyles”
I really don’t buy the ‘veganism is too expensive’ bs argument. However the vegan tax, aka paying more for less, definitely exists when it comes to pre-packaged foods. So while this is specific to Lidl in Germany it’s definitely a promising step in the right direction that at some stage will hopefully expand to include the UK.

The 20 Minute Vegan: Quick, Easy Food (That Just So Happens to be Plant-based) by Calum Harris
This is a fantastic cookbook which I would highly recommend to new and seasoned vegans alike. It really does what it says on the tin, it’s packed with quick and easy vegan recipes. We’ve tried quite a few so far and they have all been mega tasty.
You can currently get it on Amazon for £11 (half price).
What’s Cooking?
We had this white bean stew the other night which was really tasty and a welcome break from too much junk food and takeaways. Saying that we did add a garlic baguette and OMV! (Asda) No Meatballs which was great. But this is also a good hearty meal in it’s own right.
Quote of the Week
“Animals are my friends and I don’t eat my friends.”
Snack Time
This week I have been mostly eating: Tony’s Chocolonely Littl’ Bits. Basically these are a sort of dense, dark chocolate orange version of maltesers. I don’t think any further explanation is required. An essential for the snack cupboard.
GetVedgy Ramblings
There’s been confusion abound on various vegan Facebook groups this week about “May Contain: Milk” warnings and people thinking that those products can’t be vegan. I wrote an article a few months ago on this particular subject:

I hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks slightly shorter version of VedgyVoice. I’d like to say it was by design but really it was just because I ran out of time. I’m sure things will get much more professional as the weeks go by. Until next time!
