Environmental Impact of Dairy vs Plant Milk

I noticed a post doing the rounds on Facebook recently which suggested that dairy milk was so much better for the environment than almond milk. Unsurprisingly it turns out that’s not at all accurate.

But just how bad is dairy milk for the environment? And how does it compare to plant milks? Well, thankfully there’s a study:

The data shown in the image above is based on the largest meta-analysis of food system impact studies to date. You can find further info here.

As you can see from the charts, aside from the pain and suffering caused by the dairy industry to our animal friends, it also has a huge negative environmental impact. With by far the most land and water use, highest greenhouse gas emissions and impact on the quality of water (yes that last part is Eutrophication, and yes I had to Google it. Everyday’s a school day).

So while almond milk may not be the optimal plant milk choice when it comes to environmental impact, it’s clear that any plant milk is a much better choice than dairy.

What’s Cooking?

As far as comfort food goes I’m not sure there’s much better than a tasty, creamy, cheesy pasta bake. This recipe also includes vegan sausages. Enough said. 😋

Confused About Vegan Multivitamins?

When I first went vegan I went back and forth a lot trying to decide on what vitamins I might need to supplement and deciding if the best option was individual supplements or a multivitamin.

Then after deciding a multivitamin was the best option began the process of deciphering the various options, which vitamins they contained, what was missing, and the varying amounts in each.

Now that it feels like i’ve got a bit more of a handle on the subject I’ve put together this guide for any fellow vegans who are in a similar state of confusion.
