📰 What’s Happening?
The UK has passed a landmark law banning the export of live farmed animals for slaughter or fattening after a 50-year campaign.
The Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Act aims to end the suffering caused by long, stressful journeys that often result in exhaustion or death for animals.
This victory was achieved through persistent efforts, including protests, rallies, undercover investigations, and support from celebrities like Dame Joanna Lumley.
A new study identifies biodiversity loss as the primary driver of infectious disease outbreaks, surpassing other factors like climate change and chemical pollution.
The meta-analysis reviewed nearly 1,000 studies, finding that biodiversity loss, climate change, and invasive species significantly increase disease spread.
Urban areas, with better sanitation, experience fewer disease outbreaks, but all global change drivers, including urbanisation, indirectly contribute to the problem.
The VTT study highlights mycoprotein as a sustainable superfood, offering both digestible proteins and dietary fibres, unlike meat.
Mycoproteins showed superior protein digestibility, with PEKILO standing out at 56-77%, outperforming Quorn.
Consuming mycoprotein increases beneficial gut bacteria, promoting gut health and reducing risks linked to a high red meat diet.
Jane Goodall and Leonardo DiCaprio are producing "Howl," a live-action film about a former family dog and a young wolf, told from the animals' perspectives.
The film aims to shift perceptions of wolves, highlighting their need to coexist with humans and countering the "big bad wolf" stereotype.
"Howl" is expected to offer an engaging and transformative view of the natural world, with an anticipated release in 2026.

🧑🍳 What’s Cooking?
On a recent trip to Berlin I had the most incredible Tofu Scramble for breakfast from a cafe next door to our hotel. I’ve made plenty of tofu scramble at home but have always used firm tofu. But this one was made using silken tofu and it made me realise I’ve been missing out! Below is a great silken tofu scramble recipe plus a couple of other inventive vegan ‘egg’ options for your weekend breakfast. 🍳
Silken Tofu Scramble Soft or silken tofu lends a fluffy texture more similar to real scrambled eggs than the classic firm tofu.
Eggs Benedict Casserole Vegan egg casserole loaded with veggie goodness baked in one pan along with vegan “egg” made from blended tofu.
Fried Vegan Eggs They really do have that “eggy” taste and the texture of the egg white especially is spot on.
Vegan Omelette Delicious vegan omelette - ready in a flash for a quick lunch or breakfast!
