Things are getting veganised
Good morning. You’re reading VedgyVoice #3
This week’s edition is brought to you by Planty. Delicious plant-based food, created by Michelin-star chefs using fresh, natural ingredients.
Good morning. You’re reading VedgyVoice #3. This week we have promises of the most vegan year yet, fruit-tella without the crushed bones bit, tasty curry and more! It’s almost too much excitement for a Friday morning.
Featured Story
2024 Will Be the Most Vegan Year Yet, According to These 2 Trend Predictors: Two industry reports agree that vegan food, particularly plant-based seafood and simplified meat alternatives, will continue to gain favour with consumers in 2024.
2024 set to be the most vegan (veganyist, veganist?) year yet apparently. Bring it on.
Latest News
UK meat consumption at lowest level since records began: Data released by the government showed that Britons ate less meat at home in the year to March 2022 than at any point since 1974, with the average person eating 854g (1.88lbs) a week. That was down from 976g the previous year and 949g in 2019-20, before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Obviously that’s still 854g a week too much. However it’s an encouraging trend nonetheless.
Fruit-tella Launches Vegan-Friendly Version of Best-Selling Fruit Chews: Leading UK confectioner Fruit-tella announces that its best-selling fruit-flavored chews — Strawberry Mix, the Duo Stix, and the Berries & Cherries edition — will launch in a vegan-friendly version, with the original chews having included gelatine on the ingredients list.
All the cool sweets are vegan these days. Fruit-tella are the latest to ditch the gelatin. For anyone that doesn’t know, gelatin is made from decaying animal hides, boiled crushed bones, and the connective tissues of cows and pigs… so vegan or not, surely no one in their right mind would prefer the bones and connective tissue version of Fruit-tella.
South Korea Unveils National Plan to Promote Plant-Based Food Industry: South Korea becomes the second nation in the space of two weeks to announce a national plan dedicated to boosting local plant-based food production and promoting alt-protein consumption.
Nice to see governments getting behind plant-based food. Meanwhile in the UK we have the national embarrassment Thérèse “fake meat is for Astronauts” Coffey as environment secretary. If only we could send her into space.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret
This was first released back in 2014 but it’s an absolute must watch. Particularly for anyone on the fence who needs any further encouragement to make the move away from eating animals and animal derived ‘products’.
You can watch it on Netflix.

Curry season is well under way and this cauliflower and pea one is a regular on our recipe rotation. A quick, tasty and healthy option to keep you warm and full through winter nights.
Quote of the Week
“Veganism is not about giving anything up or losing anything; it is about gaining the peace within yourself that comes from embracing nonviolence and refusing to participate in the exploitation of the vulnerable”
I love this quote. A feeling of peace within was one of the many, unexpected benefits to come from going vegan.
Snack Time
This week I have been mostly eating: Applewood Vegan Minis. I’ve always been a big fan of smoked cheese and Applewood do the best vegan version that I’ve tried. These are perfect for a quick snack and the fact they are individually packaged means I’m less likely to eat the whole lot in one go.
