📰 What’s Happening?
Doctors have criticised the "Let's Eat Balanced" campaign, claiming it misleads the public about the health benefits of meat and dairy while ignoring the risks associated with red and processed meat consumption.
Health experts argue that a shift to a plant-based diet could significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers, and save the NHS billions annually.
The campaign's sustainability claims are also challenged, with critics pointing out that promoting meat consumption contradicts public health and environmental goals.
The musical "Mad Cow," satirising the meat industry, will debut at the UK's first vegan theatre, the Garlinge Theatre, in July.
The play, created by Hero Douglas's Quaestio Productions, explores themes of sustainability, ethics, and growing up differently through the story of a teenage girl on a Welsh farm.
The Garlinge Theatre promotes a plant-based environment, requiring all food and drink on-site to be vegan, and aims to foster discussions on ethical issues without preaching.
Quorn has added egg whites to its Sweet Chilli Mini Fillets, which were previously vegan, leading to disappointment among vegans who can no longer consume the product.
The change aligns with Quorn's strategy to appeal to flexitarians, despite using vegan binding agents like potato and tapioca starch in other products.
This move follows a trend of meat-free brands incorporating animal ingredients, sparking criticism over the necessity and transparency of such changes.
