Festive baguettes and vegan cheese you haven't tried yet
Plus: nutrient considerations for vegans
This week’s edition is brought to you by allplants. Healthy, plant based eating made easy with chef prepared dishes, delivered.
Good morning. You’re reading VedgyVoice #5. This week we’ve got festivals, exciting product launches and a hard hitting dose of truth.
What’s Happening?
Vegan Camp Out Announces 2024 Line-Up: The UK festival, which is now in its eighth year, will welcome guests including singer Kate Nash and comedian Lee Mack for the first time. The latter will be doing a live on-stage interview all about his life, career, and vegan journey.
Greggs launches 2023 Christmas menu with spicy veg bake and festive vegan baguettes: The new vegan offering comes in the form of the Spicy Veg Curry Bake, which is packed with a mix of chickpeas, onions, sweetcorn, pepper, parsnip, and rice, all mixed up in a curry sauce with added chillies infused for extra spice. A Vegan Turkey-Free Baguette, which is the “classic Boxing Day turkey sandwich but made vegan”, has also made its way onto this year’s menu.
There’s a Greggs dangerously close to me so I’ll report back once I’ve had the chance to sample these delicious sounding offerings!
THIS™ unveils chicken-iest plant-based recipe yet: Winners of multiple Great Taste Awards, the in-house R&D team at THIS™ have spent the last 18 months refining the company’s popular plant-based chicken recipe. The team has simplified the recipe, cutting the ingredients by half. The new improved recipe is made primarily of soya and fava protein.
Delighted to hear this as I love THIS products generally but wasn’t a big fan of their Isn’t Chicken Pieces. Looking forward to trying out the new and hopefully improved version.
Beyond Meat revenue falls as rising demand in Europe can't overcome plummeting US sales: Beyond Meat’s revenue fell nearly 9% in the third quarter as higher sales of its plant-based meat in Europe failed to make up for plummeting demand in the U.S. Beyond Meat's international retail sales rose 39% while international food service sales jumped 79%, largely due to European demand for its plant-based burgers and nuggets at McDonald’s. McDonald’s doesn’t sell those products in the U.S.
Interesting sales have dropped significantly in the US but retail sales in Europe are up a whopping 39%. Sounds like the US meat industry are pushing hard on the ‘plant-based meat is ultra processed but beef burgers are a health food narrative’ which ironically is known as bullshit.
The Laughing Cow finally launches vegan cheese triangles in the UK: The Laughing Cow has finally launched a vegan version of its iconic vegan cheese triangles in the UK. Owned by the Bel group, the dairy giant says it is the first in the country to offer a plant-based alternative to cheese ‘in portions’. Made from almonds and approved by the Vegan Society – the vegan cheese ‘delivers the same spreadable texture of original Laughing Cow’.
Finally the laughing cow has a reason to laugh! I used to love these triangles as a kid so can’t wait to try them.

The Best Speech Ever - Gary Yourofsky
An incredibly powerful speech that everyone should watch, vegan or not. I watched this when I was first looking into the merits of veganism and I found it to be extremely eye opening. (it’s a long one so add it to your watch later list)
What’s Cooking?
Chilli is another dish that I can’t get enough of over the winter months. A great option for batch cooking and keeping portions in the freezer for nights when you don’t have time or can’t be bothered cooking. Swap out the sweet potato for some vegan mince for a vegan take on chilli con carne.
Quote of the Week
“People are the only animals that drink the milk of the mother of another species. All other animals stop drinking milk altogether after weaning. It is unnatural for a dog to nurse from a mother giraffe; it is just as unnatural for a human being to drink the milk of a cow.”
